Wheel offset? Help!!

Can anyone help me on deciding the offset for my wheels?

Basically, I want the widest set of wheels possible, in 20s, without them rubbing. Staggered setup of course..........

So, I was thinking 20x9.5 in front, and 20x10.5 or 11 in back? Will that work? I have no idea about how offsets work and how they're measured......So can anyone educate me?? Thanks......

I am running 20 x 8.5 front, 20 x 10 rear, both with ET40, I had ET30 rear, but they rubbed, so I had to go to the ET40, but I don't have any rub now. 245/30 and 285/25. I have heard of 10.5 rear, but then you may need to got to an ET45 in the rear, not real sure on that though.
