Excessive tire wear

My wife's 2006 325i came OE with Pirelli Eufori@ runflats on the 17" Sport Package wheels. They are now down to the wear bars at just over 15,000 miles. The tires have been maintained at the BMW recommended tire pressure and checked monthly. We inquired with the dealer last week and they said that the BMW recommended pressures were too low and that the tires should be inflated to 40 Llbs. They say that this is why our tire wear is so poor. Well, for one thing, under-inflated tires usually wear more on the outside and these are wearing evenly all across the tread. We are supposed to have a meeting with the BMW field service rep. next week. I'd like to know if what we are experiencing is normal or if there is something basically wrong with these Pirellis in this application.

Excessive tire wear

While no one bothered to reply to my post I thought I'd mention what happened. We met with the BMW field rep. and he agreed to replace both our front tires as a "courtesy" no charge. The rear tires, however, have only about 5000 miles wear left which I still feel is very poor.

The reason why you're only getting 15k out of those tires is because they have a wear rating of 180 which is really low. So if you replace them with the same tires expect to get the same usage. Look for something with a higher wear rating. Unfortunately most UHP summer tires have a low wear rating. I guess the options are even more limited if you pick from only run flats.
