Conti or Dunlop

The Tirerack website recommends a package for the 335i Sport package with Dunlop tires. Just wondering why not go with the Continentals, for $2 more? Same run flat tires. I just noticed that BMW ships with ContiWinterContact tires in Germany, having walked through some showrooms to check out what they were putting on.

Anyone have thoughts about this?

I think it comes down to personal preference and experience with winter tires. If you like the Conti, there is no reason not to go with them as I am sure they are a decent winter tire. I personally know a lot of people who swear by Blizzaks for winter tires.

The TireRack is a great source for reviews from people so make sure you take some time to see pros/cons that others have had. If you have any specific questions, it might be a good idea to just give Gary a call and talk to him about your options

If you are talking about Winter tires, I believe that TR likes the overal performance of the Dunlps better than that of most tires.

When it comes to most other tires though, Conti>dunlop

snow tires

I just talked to Justin at TIRE RACK
. They are now recommending 205/50/17 tires on the 335i sport package. Apparently there is a clearance problem with the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 DSST run flat, and unless you want to has the wheel wells flared they can rub and cause damage.
I am still waiting on delivery of my car and almost placed the order last week, and now i found this out.
Also they are out of stock on the tmps valves and expect delivery by Dec 23rd, so if you want run flats with the sensors wou will wait a while.
I ordered Pirelli 210 Sotozero 205/50/17 with rims and sensors today, any thoughts.

I got ContiWinterContacts, 205s. Haven't put them on yet, but they're the same size as the ContiTouringContacts on my 330xi. The tread pattern is not much different, it must just be the rubber compound that differs. Can post a picture once they're on. Got them mounted on ASA JH3s with sensors. The tires are listed as 205/50VR-17 Continental ContiWinterContact TS810 S SSR BMW R.

The new shipment of the ASA JH3 wheels are 20mm offset, thus the need for 205/50R17 tires.

Is the rubbing an issue on the coupe, sedan, or both? I just purchased 225/40/R18 Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D tires from Tire Rack for my sedan, and was advised that this was the proper configuration. I have not put them on yet, so any help would be appreciated.

No reports of rubbing with the setup that you bought.
