N52 vibrating/shaking issues

Ok, so I've had my '06 325i since December 2012 and I've noticed that most of the time at idle the car vibrates.(I know engines vibrate but my moms Honda is MUCH smoother) Also, occasionally the idle speed will not stay constant and is always up and down, varying between below 500 rpm(where vibration becomes a shake) to almost 1,000 rpm. From what I have read the main causes are bad coils(mine are good, I had them checked) and/or bad spark plugs. I replaced all the spark plugs hoping that would fix it. No luck. Another thing I have read is a software update. The main thing I want to know is how much it costs to have the software update done. My car is way out if warranty at 89,000 miles and I didn't get a CPO warranty since I didn't buy it at a BMW dealer. Any other ideas are more than welcome! Thanks in advance!!!!

I don't have x-drive and its only noticeable at idle. If it was x-drive wouldn't it do it all the time?

Nope , at least not on my xi awd system. Your idle issue could be one of several things. Any and all knock sensors, mass air flow sensor, idle control valve, O2 sensors, intake air temp sensor just to name a few. Check the codes if any.

I'm kinda thinking its the mass air flow because this all started when I took it to a non BMW mechanic when I first got the car and they left the MAF unplugged. What was odd about that though was that I didn't realize it was unplugged until three days later when it wouldn't idle at all and didn't hardly have any power.

Do you have a code set? the MAF would have set a code but it would have cleared with driving. I'm thinking cam sensor VANOS fault. My 328 ran rough when I bought it, but all it needed was some Techron Fuel System Cleaner. The fuel cleaner rough idle wont set a code.
