would like to get into an e90, but only if i don't have to deal with the common, annoying issues of the e46(cooling, idling, etc). do the e90 3ers have any common issues? if so, what are they typically? thanks in advance fellas

Given my short experience of owning a 09 328i over my previous 03 325i I would say the common problems with the E90 seem to be the:
Electric water pump's short life cycle. The carbon build up in the intake valves. Alternator bearing's early failure. When replacing the battery the new battery has to be registered, extra expense. Most owners are not happy with the harsh ride from the Run-Flats (no spare). Getting comfortable with the digital oil monitor(no oil dip stick). One of the biggest complaints was from earlier E90's Hydrolic lifters that seem to prematurly fail(05-08) early signs include ticking and then the engine would sound like a deisel. Some of these engine issues were corrected with a head replacement. There are some things that never change as in the VCG drys up and leaks over the exhaust manifold in the same place as the E46. But there are a few refinements such as the easier Vanos service. More robust front and rear suspension. Easier access to front of engine componants as there is now about 4" more room over the E46 engine area. Fuel filter in the tank, easier to replace over the E46 filter. The pathetic CCV breather system on the E46 has been replaced on the E90, yeah! In general most of the similiar parts are about the same price as the E46 other than the odd part such as the Electric water pump. I'm sure there are other pro's and Con's I have missed I'm confident others will add to this.
