IDK when you last checked the coolant level, but if you happened to get the car new and had never checked, then it'd be normal...in that it's possible that a minor seeping lowered the level over time.

But, you need to know that maybe the leak happened more recently and that you have an issue that will become a bigger issue.

Fill it to between min and max (so you don't overfill) and do so when cold on level ground if you can.

Also, check it regularly now and keep an eye on your temp gauge, until you know it's really nothing. You know, I hope, to pull over and stop car at first sign of seeing temp gauge needle rise above dead center...otherwise you'll be spending big bucks.

HTH.

Just browsing new posts and saw this...don't get over to F cars at all...if you run into issues, come on over to e46 side of forum...I'm usually hiding in General!

Oh, you know to use OE coolant too, I hope...mix it with distilled 50/50.

As dmax said, take care of it soon. No reason to risk getting you car over heated! The correct coolant for you car is available in to fashions, below are photos of both bottles. Because you are in Montreal I'd advice to sticking to the 50/50 mix instead of just adding distilled water in order to maintain the antifreeze properties of the mixture.

I bought the coolant at BMW dealer and I added about 1 liter of coolant and water. It's a lot and/or adnormal consumption but for now, level doesn't move.

If this was right after your light, I'd bet it's even less than the liter, but in any case, keep monitoring the level consistently...on level ground in the a.m. so you can notice a change reliably.

Make sure you fill to between min and max...that's essential. You need the air in your ET so it serves 'as' a thermal expansion tank...which is what it is.

You don't 'need' to come to e46fanatics...I just meant if you needed help, that's where I 'live' along with many others who know a lot about cooling systems. Not that the guys here don't, but with a newer model and newish forum, I don't know who all is here or how active the forum is...is all I meant.

GL. Monitor it often until you know it was just 'neglect and slow seeping' and not an active leak per se.
