E90 335i tugging under medium/hard acceleration

Hey guys, I have an 07 335i with 125k miles and I'm having a bit of a studdering issue under hard throttle. It has a new hpfp and the coils are supposedly new so both or those should be ruled out. Basically, in 3rd and 4th gear under about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle I feel a strong tugging feeling, as if the transmission were slipping and grabbing again but it isn't. It's also not the tires breaking loose. It does have an SES light but I have yet to pull the codes. Runs excellent other than this. Under normal acceleration and WOT the problem doesn't exist. The car is stock except a dinan stage 2 tune. The funny thing is, I have a friend who has an 08 335 with the same tune and only 43k miles and his does this too. His does not have an SES and his injectors, plugs, hpfp and turbos were replaced. He also had a carbon cleaning done. From my research I'm thinking either injectors or carbon buildup. But it's just strange that I have no fuel smell, rough idle, long starts or any other symptoms. Just an occasional stuttering with no loss of power. Thanks in advance!

Hi Whyzee,

Can you pull the codes?. Maybe you need some vanos changes?
Code would be : 2A87 "Outlet-Vanos variable cam control test" and "2A82 Inlet-Vanos variable cam control test"

Would you like to get bogus replies, or ones that would be credible.

Hey man! i pulled the codes the other day. It's a fuel trim malfunction and a misfire on cylinder 5. Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

Move the coil to a different cylinder, if the misfire moves to that cylinder, then it's a faulty coil. Fuel trim may be associated with a dirty MAF. Give it a good clean. If you're worried about carbon buildup, run some techron through the gas tank, or if you're like me, run some seafoam. I'm sure I'll get flamed for that last part, but seafoam is fine IMO
