Bought a 2011 328i with auto trans. As a stick driver, it fees weird. Is this normal?

I just bought a CPO 2011 328i with an automatic transmission. I've noticed a few things that felt weird but I am not sure if it is just because I've driven stick for the past 12 years and I'm not used to it, or if there is something actually wrong. My previous car was a manual 2000 323i.

It seems like when I am stopped and go to press on the gas, I have to press the petal a lot to get the car moving, and have to find a very small sweet spot to get the car moving smoothly instead of just taking off fast vs not moving at all. It almost hesitates. Is that normal?

Also, when I am taking off and the car is switching between 1st and 2nd gear, it just feels strange. It's hard to describe but it feels like the rpm's almost stay even from the switch beween 1st and 2nd, but it is not that smooth.

Any thoughts? Should I have my dealership give it a quick check or should I grab another similar car over there and test drive it to compare.. or am I just being paranoid?

That sounds very normal to me...same car....

Does that hesitation get better in sport mode?

My wife's 2007 automatic felt a little sloppy compared to our previous E46s. I don't recall any first to second issue, but if I slowed down to 20 mph to go through a local toll and then accelerated, sometimes I would feel a hesitation, almost like a turbo lag. I don't know if it went away as the car got some miles, or I just got used to it. I never found the sport mode to do anything except hold the shifts longer and lower MPG. The solution is to buy a manual if you can find one. I had to drive to Philadelphia to find mine. There were none any closer in the wagon like I wanted and no sport packages, but I am happy I found one with only 1500 miles and like brand new. It is one of the easiest manual transmissions to drive that I have ever had. It is a pity that these are going out of style.
