Picked up a 335i this week - winter project!

Ever since selling my first ZHP I've been toying with the idea of getting into a 335. I have several friends who have them and from riding in them they seemed very nice. Unfortunately I never got the chance to drive one but ended up buying a vf supercharged IR ZHP sedan in California. For the past 4 months or so this has been my daily driver and I've loved every second of it. On my daily drive to school I couldn't help but notice this particular 335i sitting at a body shop about five minutes down the road from my house. It had been there for several months, still not fixed and I thought about asking the owner of the shop if it was for sale. Turns out, a few days later he put it out front with a sign on it so I stopped to ask how much he wanted. He explained that it was owned by an older Asian man who bought it new in 2007, and took meticulous care of it but recently got in an accident. The shop owner laughed and told me he had never seen a car come in to the shop so clean inside. He didn't have full coverage and the insurance took about a month to determine whos fault the collision was. He ended up being at fault and decided he would rather sell the car off cheaply and put the money towards an f30. He said I could have it for $6,000 and I bought it the next day. It's a one owner, clean title car with 125k miles, dinan stage 2 software, bsw speaker upgrade and a few other little mods. Over the next month or two I will be slowly fixing it as I have time and I will try to post some updates/pictures along the way. To the best of my knowledge it needs a hood, fender, headlight, radiator, bumper, grilles and radiator support. I'm super excited to get started with this and I may end up keeping the car when it's done. Here she is! Click image for larger version

Thanks a lot! I'm cleaning out the garage and stripping everything down on Sunday to find out exactly what I need. You'll probably be hearing from me shortly

Awesome find. Curious why the body shop would decide to sell that rather than fix it and re-sell themselves since they have the man power and resources to do it. Hopefully there's nothing too drastic cost wise to the repair.

So the body shop bought it from the original owner and re-sold to you? Or did you buy directly from the owner (old asian man) where the body shop was a middle man?

The owner of the body shop bought it from the Asian guy and I bought it from him. I found it kind of unusual as well! The story is, he was testing the waters and I was the very first person to stop and look at it. When I went back later that day to tell him I wanted it, he had it inside and said if I didn't buy it he was going to fix it and sell it that way. Seems like there would be much more profit in it for him that way. I suppose he could be feeding me a story but I've done business with him 3 or 4 times before and it's always gone well so it was a risk I was willing to take for such a good price.

Also, a little update: yesterday I made room for it in the garage and started removing everything that will need to be replaced. It needs a hood, fender, bumper cover, radiator support, radiator, headlights, and a few other various pieces/brackets that I found through the diagram on tischer. Everything is ordered except the headlights so it should be driveable soon! Click image for larger version

Here's how she sits now, hopefully not for too much longer!

Well I got the radiator and support all changed along with some various little broken bits. Haven't touched the body yet but I got the cooling system bled last night and got to drive it around for a few minutes today! Can't go far because no lights but it sure was nice to finally at least have it running! Drives very well, I'm really liking it so far. May have to sell my ZHP when it's all done!
