so this is horribly embarrassing, but...
i need to know if anyone has ever done this because i'm being quoted $600 for repairs.
i drove off from a gas station with the pump still in the car. the breakaway coupling came apart, and did not reseal when the attendant tried to put it back together. a small rubber o-ring was clearly broken, which prevented resealing. this was the only visible damage. i have heard of other people doing this and paying ~$100 so im worried the manager is just trying to cash in on my embarrassment/stupidity. has anybody done this before? p.s. feel free to berate me mercilessly for my idiocy. |

err . . . I've done it twice. I'd pull up to the side of the building with the 100 octane pump and put in a few gallons (it didn't have a CC payment setup), then I'd pull to the regular [pay at the] pumps to fill up the car. While the car was filling I'd walk in to pay for the 100 octane fuel. Then I walked out, jumped in the car and started driving. (this was a modified e39 M5 that liked better fuel than the normal Colorado 91 octane). Both times the quick coupler released -- and the attendant didn't ask for any money or want my contact info. Sorry it cost you cash, but bet you learn quicker than I did!
