Close call on delivery time, Help!
Hi All!
According to Owners Circle's 1-800 number, my car is scheduled to be completed on June 8, dealer said to expect to take delivery mid to end July.
On July 19, my fiance and I are traveling to Maui to get married! Do you think the car will come in before we leave for the islands? Only reason I care is we don't have a garage, so if the car arrives shortly before we leave, I'm thinking about having the dealer hold on to that car until we get back in August or asking my fiance's parent to lend us their garage, what do you think?
Thanks!
Danny

I'm just worried about having a brand new car in the driveway without anyone at home, that's all. I'm not worried about that if I'm home or gone for a couple of days, but two weeks is a long time!
Thanks for the congrats, between that and another new car(wifey just purchased a new Acura TSX and trying to sell my car, I'm a little crazy!

id leave it at your parents then (i wouldnt trust a dealership, they wouldnt care anymore, seein as the car has already been sold). tell them to start the engine every couple of days too. you cant just leave it sittin there for two weeks

Hmm... I would advise you to either way have your fiance's parents to take the car. So if you take delivery before the honeymoon, just give it to the parents. If during the honeymoon, then maybe you can arrange it so that the dealer knows that the parents are going to be the ones taking delivery and have them drive it back home to garage it. It is good that you don't want to leave it in the open for 2 weeks since you won't have a good time during your honeymoon because you will be worrying half the time. Do they know how to drive manual?

If the car comes in during my wedding/honeymoon, I'm kinda stuck b/c her parents don't drive manual. I hope it comes in before!
BTW SpAcEmAn SpLiFF, if the car comes in while I'm gone, I hope the dealer won't mess with it b/c I haven't completed the paper-work yet, I just placed my deposit down.

In that case of placing the deposit, then just have them notified that you will follow through with the transaction only if the car doesn't have an excessive amount of mileage. Maybe you can specify it, but I guess you can create some simple paper contract that you have the dealer sign. The reason why I say "excessive amount of mileage" is because I don't know if they have guys driving the cars periodically to keep the battery alive. If not, then you can make it even serious by saying the mileage should be under 10 or something so you know that they didn't tamper with it while you are on the trip. And if they break the promise, then you obviously can take your 1 grand and take it to some other reputable dealer. And I'm assuming that you can take your 1 grand whenever even if it arrives?

yup, your right, the deposit is 100% refundable at anytime before you sign the paperwork. If the car doesn't come in before I leave, I will have to talk to the dealer like you said.

This doesn't sound horribly difficult. I would just arrange to pick up the car when you get back. It will be safe at the dealer, and you'll want to be present at delivery to inspect the car before taking it off the lot. Depending on where you live, I don't think a dealer should have a problem holding a car for 2 weeks. It's got your name on it, it shouldn't have more than a few miles on it when you take delivery. They dealership may even enjoy having a couple extra days to prep the car. That just seems like too much emotional high and low to take delivery and then let it sit for 2 weeks. Best to have something super good to look forward to when you get back from having all that fun on the honeymoon.

I think you're worried for no reason. If they have a deposit on the car, then as far as the salespeople are concerned the car is considered sold, and I am sure it's marked as such on their availability report. They're not going to use it as a demo car or anything, you won't have any issues. People order cars all the time.
Just tell them you're going to be gone from whenever to whenever, and if it comes in before, great, go get it and store it at the in-laws. If it comes in while you're gone, they'll simply slap a "sold" tag on it and prep it, and you'll pick it up when you get back. Either way the dealership would be pretty stupid to treat the car like it's an available unit, I can't imagine them doing that.
