IDRIVE Nav Updates

Sorry if this has been posted already, but BMW does have an upgrade for the Nav system which now allows you to find, for example, a resturant, by typing in the name. It still uses the silly tree structure to get to the point where you can tell it what you're looking for, but it's a hugh improvement over not having it. The nav upgrade was part of an idrive upgrade which was supposed to get rid of some of the idrive occaisional hesitation.

I too would like to know. There are restaurants in my area that have been here longer than I have had my car and yet where they are shown as big empty fields on my nav and their names are not in my directory.

I don't have too many of the "open field" issues, but new neighborhoods which have gone up in the last couple of years are usually not available. There are 2 types of upgrades available: software/firmware upgrades that BMW has to perform and 2ndarily, the DVD upgrades which from what I've sen from other vendors, usually come out once a year.

The upgarde I was talking about was a firmware/software upgrade, not the DVD. Even through you have a new 335, I'd still check with your dealer to make sure that you have the latest DVD. I think the nav manufacturers and software suppliers tend to favor cities over more rural areas. I had a Pioneer Nav put into a G35 that I had, and I had exactly the same issues that you're having. The NAv DVD was years out of date.
