Anyone think BMW will ever offer Comfort Access as a Dealer Installed Option??

When I ordered my new 335i, I decided to forgo a few things that I thought I did not need. Well, I am regretting now that I passed on Comfort Access. I was wondering if they might ever offer that as a dealer installed option. I don't have a lot of knowledgde of these things but was thinking the car might just be already wired for it and they just have to plug in some kind of control module to make it do its magic.

Anbody know anything??

I don't know enough about the system to say 100% but I would guess it would be so expensive to retro fit that they will not offer it. I can see enthusiasts figuring it out, like some of the Nav retrofits....but CA is an entirely different animal.

From what I understand about CA, it is not a very easy system to retrofit. I could see a 3rd party kit possibly but I doubt that we would ever see it from a dealer.

isn't "comfort access" now standard on all new infinitis?

Just read the article in Roundel comparing 5er with the M35/45, its standard issue on the Infiniti M. Shame BMW charges 1K for this.

It is only $500 I think.

Thumbs down

I don't know if it will make you feel any better, but I got CA on my car against my better judgement, and now I regret it. In my opinion, it's a "gadget", i.e., an option for an option's sake, rather than a true convenience. I'm finding I still lock the doors using the fob anyway. Also, when both my wife and I are in the car (i.e. both fobs present), the car gets confused as to which settings to use. Yeah, I know, leave one of the fobs behind right? Well...isn't that supposed to be one of the advantages (put it in your pocket/purse and forget it)?

Another thing I found is that when I am washing the car, the water running over the door handle causes the door locks to lock/unlock repeatedly. Again, the only solution is to take the fob out of my pocket and set it somewhere several feet away. Just annoying things like that cause me to regret it. Can I get used to it? Sure. Are the annoyances that big of a deal? Not really. But could they all be avoided if I had a normal key (or at least no CA?) Absolutely.

Just my 2 cents.

Another interesting qualm of this system. It seems that if you have a cell phone and the fob in the same pocket (or in close proximity), the fob locks. Something to do with microwave frequency locking up the fob. It is a very nifty feature I admit, but again as most electronics go... not perfect!!!
