335 Euro Del Ordered: Need Advice on Venice & Nav DVD

Addicted to European Delivery, I'm going back soon for my third BMW, a 335 (Black Sap. over Terra/Aluminum, Manual, Prem/Sport, etc.) I'll miss my E60, but have high hopes for the new car....

1.) I need advice on Venice. I've never been there and the Ball 'n Chain really (really really) wants to go...so, we're going! I've heard that I must leave my car outside of the city.
  • Is this true?
  • Any suggestions on where to park?
  • Should I just stay at a hotel outside the city and train/boat in?

2.) I got the Nav system this time. Will I have the Western europe maps? Or do I need to borrow/buy the european DVD?

I know Venice pretty well. Yes, you'll have to leave your car outside the city for the very simple reason that Venice is built in the sea and has no roads! The nearest city on the mainland is Mestre, which is industrial and ugly. The best way to stay close to Venice and still have your car with you would be to get a hotel on the Lido, also out to sea, but you can get over there on a ferry. It's then a short boat ride over to Venice proper. The ferries take a while and it's time consuming, but this is the best way I know if you MUST have your car, and if you've just picked it up I imagine you might. Otherwise consider staying in Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet, so wife will find it romantic. Not too far then to Venice on the train, you could leave your car in Verona and do a day trip or two to Venice.
If you need advice, don't hesitate, I'm a tour guide, and European myself.
As for the navigation DVDs, I believe you'll be able to rent the European ones from BMW.

Hmoll,

You can "rent" the Euro Navi CD. See here:

Also a great forum for European Delivery.
